Event Details

Free Income Tax Preparation for people aged 50 and above with low to moderate income.

Registration necessary.

Registration for district #23 residents begins on January 2nd. Registration for those living outside of the district will begin on January 9th.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Tax Preparation

Items ALL taxpayers need to bring:

  • All taxpayers (i.e., husband and wife) MUST BE PRESENT for review of return and signatures
  • Social Security Cards for all taxpayers and dependents
  • NYS Drivers Licenses for all taxpayers (info on license is needed to file NYS tax return) If no Drivers License, then a picture ID is needed
  • Prior year Income Tax Returns, NY State Tax Returns
  • *Please complete the Intake/Interview& Quality Review Sheet in its entirety
  • *Please have all supporting tax documents ready (i.e., out of envelopes)

Items to bring, if applicable:

  • W-2 forms -wages
  • SSA 1099 Report of Social Security Benefits RRB 1099R for Railroad Retirement Benefits
  • 1099R Pension and Annuity payments, IRA & 401k plan distributions and rollover information
  • 1099 forms- for interest, dividends and miscellaneous income
  • Investment brokers year-end tax reporting statements with capital gains & losses Sale of Home- closing statement and costs & improvements of home sold
  • 1099G- Unemployment compensation
  • W2G- Gambling income and losses. Note: only NYS income tax returns are prepared and not the returns of other states. In the event you have gambling income from NJ, PA and other states (except CT is ok), that would require an out of state return, which CANNOT be filed by AARP. As such, the entire return will not be able to be prepared.
  • Alimony- paid or received and date of divorce or separation decree
  • Self-Employment Income- expenses cannot exceed $25,000, with certain other limitations K-1- only for interest, dividends, royalty payments and capital gains/losses
  • IRA contributions
  • College Tuition and Fees paid (1098T) and Student Loan Interest
  • Mortgage Interest and Real Estate Taxes- plus any receipt for STAR issued checks received Sales Tax Paid on major purchases (i.e., car, boat)
  • Unreimbursed Medical Expenses & Insurance- including supplemental insurance and Long-Term Care Insurance Premiums. As well as 1095A for medical insurance purchased under the Affordable Care Act Income Taxes Paid in 2023, including any estimated taxes paid.
  • Gifts to Charity
  • Child and Dependent Care Expenses
  • Property & School tax bills; including amts paid during 2023 and amts received for Home owner tax rebate ck and STAR credit (if STAR rebate check was received)
